Dopplerography of vessels is a modern ultrasonic method of examination of vascular blood flow, showing blood flow indicators in real time, in graphic, sound and quantitative kind. This is the painless procedure which does not have age restrictions and contra-indications. The method is based on Doppler’s effect: the signal sent by the special gauge, is reflected from moving objects (formed elements of blood – , erythrocytes, etc.) and frequency of the signal varies proportionally to the speed of blood flow.
During the procedure the patient lies; the doctor carries out examination in control points corresponding to projection of the examined vessels using a special gauge. Examination is informative both for large and for small vessels. Both venous and arterial blood circulation is investigated.
Result of the examination is the conclusion about steadiness of blood flow in vessels and character of its changes because of stenosis or occlusion of the vessel lumen, caused by atherosclerotic plaque, blood clot or inflammation. Compensatory possibilities of blood flow, anomaly of vascular structure and passage – tortuosity, kink, aneurysm; presence and degree of expressiveness of arterial spasm; probability of prelum of arteries from the outside – by scars, spasmodic muscles or vertebras ( of vertebral arteries) is estimated. The important component of examination is estimation of venous blood flow condition – dysfunction of outflow from skull cavity, permeability of low extremities veins and consistency of their valves.
If you have edemas and heaviness in legs and feet, spasms, headaches and dizzinesses, if you suffer from hypertension or have excessive body weight, you should undergo dopplerography.
The ultrasonic diagnostics room of clinic «TerraMed» is equipped with digital ultrasonic system of the higher class – the device Phillips HD – 11 4D. We can offer the following types of examination:
- Dopplerography of vertebral and carotid arteries;
- Of abdominal part of aorta and its branches;
- Of arteries of low and upper extremities ;
- Of veins of low and upper extremities;
- Dopplerography of blood circulation system in fetus and placenta.
Depending on the received results you will be directed to the specialist (for example, to the vascular surgeon, the cardiologist) which will prescribe to you necessary course of treatment.
Dopplerography is applied not only as diagnostics method, but also for efficiency of treatment, for definition of the tactics of medical actions (conservative or operational).
Ultrasonic dopplerography of neck vessels (extracranial scanning) – examination of great vessels in the region of the neck as far as their input in the skull cavity. It gives possibility to estimate condition of venous blood flow in the neck vessels that informs the doctor on possible disorders of blood flow:
- Stenoses (lumen narrowing) of arteries and to determine their importance;
- Detection of vascular walls condition (elasticity disorder, hypertone, hypotension);
- Detection of condition of vertebral arteries;
- Definition of a condition of venous blood flow of the neck.
If you have noise in the ears, dizzinesses, headache and other signs of blood circulation disorder you should undergo the examination.
Ultrasonic dopplerography of extremities veins is a method of an estimation of extremities veins condition and their valves. It allows quickly and accurately to diagnose thrombosis of deep and superficial veins, their passableness; to determine the cause of varicosis and of vascular little stars; to get information about condition of the blood channel ( branching of vessels, condition of veins walls ); to estimate the work of valves, speed of a blood flow.
Ultrasonic dopplerography of arteries of low and upper extremities is a method of examination of condition of vessels and blood flow. We can see vascular lumen, its narrowing, to detect accurately sizes of a blood clot and to follow its changes in treatment process, to estimate and to measure blood flow parametres.
INDICATIONS:
- peripheral angiopathy (arterial insufficiency);
- vasculitis;
- diabetes.
Dopplerography of fetus is examination of blood flow in fetus vessels, umbilical cord and uterus vessels. Results of dopplerography give possibility to estimate condition of uteral- placental-fetal blood flow and indirectly detect pre-natal condition of the child. The trustworthy information about condition of uteral blood flow can be received since 20-21 weeks. In late terms (after 30 weeks) dopplerography is a desirable component of each ultrasonic examination.
Obligatory indications to dopplerography are:
- discrepancy of the sizes of fetus to duration of gestation;
- ultrasonic changes, such as abnormal quantity of amniotic waters, premature maturing and other pathologies of placenta condition ;
- mother’s diseases : changes of arterial pressure, diabetes, anemia, diseases of kidneys, etc.
