Acupuncture is the ancient method of oriental medicine with 5 000 years’ history. Acupuncture is supposed to originate from China but there are facts indicating that other nations applied acupuncture in the ancient times as well. But as it was wide spread in China it was called Chinese method of treatment, or Tsienn-tsieu therapy (chin. tsien – acupuncture, literally – prick with golden needle; tsieu – cauterization). Ancient physicians successfully treated many serious diseases.- What is acupuncture?
- Normally energy Qi flows freely through energy pathways (meridians) and the man is healthy, vigorous, full of vital force. An imbalance of qi causes disordering of energy circulation and the man feels bad, tired. It also causes chronic diseases .Acupuncture restores the energy flow in the meridian, improving the patient’s condition, returning him health and youth.

- any disorders of nutrition (overeating, malnutrition, raw food diet, prolonged fasting, dreary diet, eating in a hurry, in standing position, while working, accompanied by negative emotions) cause of disorders of function of digestive organs, that leads to disorder of distribution of nutritive substances that cause disorder of work of other organs.
- Non-observance of working and resting arrangement:
- any overloads exhaust energy Qi, reducing nutrition of tissues and resistance of organism
- excessive physical activity, intensive trainings, especially in the pubertal period, exhaust energy of Kidney, causing exhaustion of vital forces.
- excessive sexual activity exhausts essence of Kidney, leading to premature aging, deteriorating of vision, mental abilities and disorder of reproductive function.
- Before indicating treatment the doctor of traditional medicine shoul diagnose your disease correctly:
- to detect the site of lesion (External or Internal)
- character of disorder of the function (Fullness-Emptiness, Heat-Cold)
- Level of participation of Energy and Blood.
- How the procedure of acupuncture is done .
- The patient should come 10-15 minutes before the procedure to relax and put his energy in harmonious condition. After listening to the patient’s complaints, examining him and his tongue, taking his pulse and detecting the type of disorder of energy, the doctor carries out the procedure of acupuncture and gives recommendations. Procedure is done with thin needles made of special alloy. All the needles are strictly individual!! At inserting the needle into the acupuncture points the patient may feel so-called specified sensations: burning, ache, swelling or flowing of small current – these are quite normal senses, that don’t cause any sufficient discomfort. During the procedure the patient is lying relaxed, listening to the pleasant music or if it’s necessary – meditation, he can fall asleep that is quite normal too. After the procedure the patient is recommended to sit 10 -15 minutes.
- How acupuncture works. It is known that the man is bioenergetic structure. The doctor. Acting on the biologically active points with various techniques, normalizes the patient’s energetic condition, strengthening his vital forces that helps the patient’s organism to become resistant to unfavorable factors. We fall ill not because some microbe gets into our organism but because our organism due to some reasons becomes too weak to adapt to the changed conditions.

- Modern explanation of mechanism of acupuncture action:
- During the procedure of acupuncture neurotransmitters and other biological substances which regulate hypothalamo-hypophysial system release into blood, relief pain, improve condition of vascular wall and cellular membranes, normalize nerve conduction, blood coagulation, activate formation of T- and B-lymphocytes, that provides improving of blood circulation, strengthening of immunity, hormonal balance and many other function.
- Impulses from the needle go through the nerve paths through structures of the spine column to the cerebrum, inserting in reflex arch, improving the work of the organs of organism, normalizing vegetative reactions.
- The man is bioenergoinformation structure, that gives possibility to correct energy flows, changing his physical and psychical functions.
- Oriental explanation of mechanism of acupuncture action:
- The man being in Celestial Empire, takes his energy from the Sky and from the Earth. Chinese hieroglyph, denoting the man, represent the figire looking like the tree with the arms, like branches raised to the sky ( where he takes energy Yang, spiritual, movable and hot ) and with the legs, like roots, going deep down into the Earth ( where he receives energy Yin, material, feeding, cold ). If these two energies are harmonized, the man is in good health.
- The doctor studies the patient as a single whole, not as a sum of organs. Under influence of affecting factors changing occur in the whole organism, damaging the weakest organ, and the disease of this organ cause the damage of other organs (system Wu Xing) . Chinese medicine explains easily, why patients with ulcers often have problems with his spine or bronchi, patients suffering from maxilliary sinusitis are in hypochondriac mood or have problems with veins, people suffering from pуelonephritis have cold feet, bad teeth, why enuresis is caused by fright , why our children, preparing diligently for the exams lose weight, etc. medical school pays much attention to emotions. “The healthy man is not that one who doesn’t get ill but that one whose body and spirit are in harmony”.
- The man is the part of the Nature, that’s why he obeys the same laws of development as the Nature surrounding him. All in this world is cyclical: the Day (Yang) is changed by the Night (Yin); the Winter (Cold) is inevitably followed by Spring (Wind), then Summer (Warm) comes, after it Autumn begins (Metal), etc. Ancient Chinese physicians-philosophers could explain with figurative meanings the processes, taking place in nature, society and human organism. Spring symbolizes conception, awakening, this is the period of liver and cholecyst; summer symbolizes maximal development, flourishing, this is the period of activity of endocrine and cardiovascular systems; Autumn is the beginning of decline, lowering of functions, this is the period of lungs and bowels; winter is decline, ending of the cycle; time of kidneys and urinary bladder. Therefore, organs should work intensively an the periods of maximal activity, and at the periods of minimal activity one should take preventive measures against diseases.
- Herbal therapy (phytotherapy) is the method of treatment with use of healing herbs and medical forms obtained from them. Effect achieves thanks to the complex of biologically active substances containing in the medical plants. Phytotherapy is one of the oldest methods of treatment. The first description of healing herbs was found in Ebers Papyrus in Egypt (dating to 1600 BC.), and on the territory of Moldova the first documents, describing the methods of herbal treatment dated back to the time of Stefan Chel mare’s (1457-1504). Phytotherapy is successfully applied in nowadays .
Homeopathy is information treatment. It was originated by German doctor Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843). The name comes from greek homios –similar and pathos- suffering, i.e. treatment is based on the doctrine “like cures like” (similia similibus curantur). If natural substance ( herb, mineral) causes symptoms similar to some disease that means that low dose of this substance provides recovery. This principle is the basis of homeopathy. The new trend called homotoxicology is developing successfully at present time.
Homotoxicology is connecting link between homeopathy and medicamental therapy. It was worked out by German scientist and doctor Hans-Heinrich Reckeweg (1905-1985). Treatment is based on the doctrine that excessive amount of toxins getting into organism causes diseases . Disease is considered as “complex of protective reactions, aimed at compensation of intoxication and disorder in function of internal organs caused by it” (H.-H.Reckeweg). Preparations of homotoxicology consists of chelates of homeopathic substances. They are prescribed in the form of drops, tablets, introduced into the area of acupuncture points.
All the methods described above are combined well with acupuncture if necessary.
